Did a quick search and couldn't find an answer. I want to use the 110v bed outlet to run a Crock-pot for tailgating this weekend. I have used the outlet with the truck running but not with it off. My truck is an automatic. The owners manual says the truck can't be in Park or Drive to use the outlet with the engine off. When I shut the truck off in neutral and then run in accessory mode the outlet works but the the truck beeps like mad and the display says something like "Check Charging System". We will also be in a grass lot that I have never been to so leaving the truck in neutral and potentially being parked on an incline may not be an option. Is this the way it is or am I missing something? Not looking to make any modifications at this time since I don't use the outlet very often. Just looking to get by for this weekend.

maybe if the truck is running. I once tried to run a coffee machine off mine, it wont work. Will use a wheel buffer for about 2 mins then shuts off. I would just either not do it, or use some sort of solar jackery /goal zero type power block. or if you wanna say fuggit, generator if all else fails.

The truck has to be running and will only work when in Park/Neutral (400watts) or Drive (100watts)

    ■ Maximum available capacity of the power outlet
    ● While the vehicle is being driven The maximum capacity of the power outlet is always 120 V AC/ 100 W.

    ● When the vehicle is stationary The maximum capacity of the power outlet varies depending on the following conditions:
    • The maximum capacity is 120 V AC/100 W when the following conditions applies: Vehicles with an automatic transmission The shift lever is moved to any positions other than P and N.
Vehicles with a manual transmission The clutch pedal is depressed.
    • The maximum capacity is 120 V AC/400 W when the following conditions applies: Vehicles with an automatic transmission The shift lever is in P or N.
Vehicles with a manual transmission The shift lever is in N and the clutch pedal is not depressed. The maximum capacity of 400 W can only be restored by turning the power outlet main switch off and then on again under condition described above

In Park and Idling, you will only have about 1 amp of power at 120 V. Actually, it will be less than 1A, more like 0.8 A.

What is the power rating on the crock pot read???

Thanks everyone for your help. I will have to check the power rating of the crock pot, that is a good point. I do have a Yeti Goal Zero 150 that I could try also. I just bought it and I guess that option slipped my mind.

    As a thought.....

If you have a small insulated cooler. Cook the food in the crock pot at home. When ready to go..... Fill the cooler with hot water, let is set for a few minutes. This will "heat" the cooler. Dump out the water, dump the crock pot contents into the cooler. Close lid. The food should stay hot for a few hours.

Wait, I have a 2019 TRD Off-Road and the bed plug 100% works with the truck off. You have to put it in accessory mode, and it will automatically shut off after some time, but the truck does not have to be running.

Woah interesting. I wonder if they changed it to prevent battery drain. I certainly wouldn't run much off it with the truck off. I've done some string lights on it, but that's about it.

so can anyone point me to a thread or info on how to get the outlet to stay on and NOT turn off by itself. my situation last night... have the boom box plugged in so we can all listen to music. im letting friends pair their phones and play what they like.. 5 -10 mins and it shuts off unpairing and killing the music vibes.

super annoying and now i need to find a way to make it so it stays on when i turn it on. if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome.

The 110 v. AC outlet has very little practical use. It's mainly just a selling point.

    I would suggest a stand-alone, portable gas-powered generator if you really need 110 v.

Or, get 12 v. DC accessories and run them off an outlet tied directly to the battery.

fuck a generator. these days the power banks are getting really good so if i was going that route id just do that. i just want to know if it is possible to make the current system that is in the truck to stay on and not turn off after so long. i really dont understand why it does this :/

Yea I hate that the truck turns off the bed plug so much that I hardwired in an aftermarket inverter. 1200w pure sine wave inverter and it stays on all night long, love it!

OP if you're Crock Pot draws anywhere near 3.33 amps at 120 volts (and I'm sure it draws more than that) you won't be able to use your truck's outlet. It's really only a convenience item for a small reefer or electric drills, buffers etc. not for heating element loads. Get you a portable 2KW (or higher) gas generator for heavier loads.

This is exactly the kind of rear seat power station I want, have you posted details anywhere else on it? Is it low profile enough that you could put the rear seats back in if you wanted to?
