    Hey All,

My 09 Taco just surpassed the 100k mark! Still runs great!

Went to the dealer for an oil change and they recommended I do service because of its age.

    Recommended:
    - Spark Plugs $200+
    - Drive Belt $200+
    - Fuel Flush
    - 4x4 Service (whatever that is)

Just wondering what I should get done for it. Are there other services I should get updated/replaced?

    Cheers!
    - Ryan

u should be able to do all those pretty easy.
    auto or manual?

    auto= dealer flush
    manual= do at home.

seriously, $400 for plugs and a belt?

fuel system service........................im on the fence about it. Do u run shitty gas?

last time u had brakes done?

radiator flush= home with super duper long life pink stuff from the dealership

Only replace those things if they are due. Don't do it just because the engine hit 100K.

4X4 service is going to include replacing gear oil in both diffs and transfer case.

You likely have not replaced antifreeze and serpentine belt. Antifreeze is on the 120K schedule. Serpentine belts last a long time. Replace them if the inside cracks and starts to chip. Mine has 135K and still looks in good shape. I check it every oil change for wear/tear. I will replace it at 150K along with the radiator hoses whether they need to be replaced or not.

When was the last time you had the spark plugs and the diff oils changed? They're supposed to be changed every 30k miles - according to my 07 manual. Easy DIY mods....I do them myself. Along with greasing your ujoints every 30K miles or sooner.

At 100K miles, the cooling system would need flushed & filled as well as the transmission oils be changed. I'm pretty sure both are recommended to be done at 100K. Drive belts are good to change.

Other ideas to do yourself? Steering fluid flush. Maybe bleed some new brake fluid thru the system. Fuel filter? -although, I have no idea where its located on 2nd gen. Water pump? - not sure what the recommendation is for that. I've still got 1st gen maintenance schedule in my head....LOL

The 2nd gen fuel filter is located in the gas tank, and is apparently never meant to be changed.

    Hey All,

    Thanks for the replies!!

I have never changed the diff fluids. That is part of the 4x4 service I presume?

Brakes were done at ~35k due to 'clicking' noises in the fronts. Dealer couldnt find the issue and claimed it was normal. Midas found broken support brackets or something which caused the pads to move everytime i hit the brakes, causing the noise. Scary. So, I don't always trust the dealer anymore.

    I am thinking of doing:
    - Plugs
    - Belt
    - 4x4 service
    - Steering fluid
    - Trans fluid
    - Fuel flush

I use regular unleaded for gas. So hopefully it isnt too crappy of gas.

Thanks for all the pointers! I am not very handy when it comes to vehicle maintenance, so I may just have a service center do most of them. Especially the 4x4 service.

6cyl spark plugs are every 30K IIRC; 4cyl plugs are every 100K.

In addition to gear oil in diffs, the zerks on the drive shaft (2 fwd & 3 rear) need grease. I grease mine every oil change (5K miles).

I change my diff oil every 30K miles; Xfer Case and Manual Trans every 60K miles.

    Order of ease, imo:
    - 4x4 service
    - Steering fluid flush
    - Belt
    - Plugs
    - Trans fluid

I left out fuel flush 'cause I don't think you need it. A bottle of good fuel clearer such as Lucas Fuel System Cleaner every time to do an oil change should keep your fuel lines and injectors clean. (I have 135K on my Taco and my wife is nearing 170K in her Lexus and neither has ever had or needed a fuel flush.)

Are you saying you haven't changed plugs or changed the diff fluid in 100K miles?!

    Thanks all!

That is correct, at least to my memory.

It was never recommended to me. This being my first truck, I had no idea it needed done:frusty:.

I appreciate everyone's recommendations. This is a great forum!
