1 mm as opposed to 0 mm Offset

I have been searching for summer wheels for my 2015 DC and have a set I really like but they are 1mm offset as opposed to the 0mm that come on stock wheels. All the other parameters are the same ie

16x8

offset 1mm

Back spacing 4.5

Bolt pattern 6-139.

Will this affect anything? Alignment wheel well clearance etc? Does this just mean the wheel will stick out further from the wheel well? Thanks

 

I don't know but 1mm is like the thickness of a credit card, maybe just a hair more.

but zero offset is what is recommended by everyone selling rims for tacoma.

 

+1mm is no problem at all....

 

1mm difference will make no difference in anything, you're only talking about 1/25" difference.

However, what wheels do you have, that are 8" wide and 0mm offset? Factory wheels are usually 7-7.5" wide and 15 or 30mm.

 

As other folks have mentioned, stock rims are NOT 0mm offset.

So a +1mm offset will "stick out" about an inch or so more than factory rims.

Also, 8" wide rims are wider than stock rims.

You don't tell us what size tires you're planning on running, but be cautioned:

at stock ride height folks usually find they can go oversized (e.g. 265/75R16) on tires OR go to a rim with more "negative offset" than factory, but not both.

 

Stocks are +30mm offset, if I'm not mistaken. I bought 0mm offsets on my current set, and they're perfect.

 

I have a 2015 4x4 SR5 DC. Stock alloy rims. 245 75R 16 stock tires. What rim is on this truck stock? Seems I was given wrong info?

It's harder to find out than you'd think.

Since aftermarket rims are marketed for a variety of fitments - they need to publish all relevant dimensions.

Factory rims come stock on the car - and if you need to order a replacement from the factory - it's obtained by simply using a part number. So basically, Toyota doesn't publish their rim fitment specs.

That's why we don't have 223 bazillion members who can rattle the factory rim specs off the tip of their tongue.

Probably 7" wide and 30mm offset.

 

I bought a set of -6 offset wheels, and everyone I know with them has no problems.

OK, but you might be tempted to read the "8Jx16" as being 8" wide - and they're simply not an 8" wide rim. So I'm not sure what that is saying. Also nothing in that string specifies a wheel offset or backspacing number.

That's what I'm sayin' - the factory steelies do NOT measure 8"

I can't remember if they're 7" or what exactly - but they're less than 8.

 

Measure 'em when you take your tires off. But remember it's from inside mounting surface to inside mounting surface.

 

8J indicates it is an 8" wheel, the "J" shows the style of the rim bead. ET2 is the offset (+2mm). Unsure why the M12x1.5 is listed as that really has nothing to do with the wheel itself in general. That is the size of the lug stud. The "106.1" is the center bore of the wheel.


There is no set-in-stone, standard method for measuring the width of the wheel. Some measure inside the rim bead flanges, other measure from the outside. There alone you could have a difference of more than 1/2". Aftermarket companies typically are measuring by the outside method.

Also too .. be careful when changing offsets in larger jumps. While trucks are a little more forgiving, cars can be far more sensitive. A change as small as 3mm (1/8") on some cars can be enough that under the right conditions, the spring perch of the strut can slice the sidewall of the tire. Crashes are bad .. m'kay.

This is the wheel I decided to go with on my Super White.

Offset is 1mm instead of the stock 2mm. Rest of the description and specs matches stock.
