Just what we need, another oil thread.

Noticed some dealers are using 0W-16 in 2016 and above Taco V6's.

Is this the new thing ?
I have always used 0W-20 as stated on engine and in manual.

That doesn't sound right. The 0w-16 is for other Toyotas. Stick with what is given in the owners manual.

0W-16 is spec'd for the Prius to eck out that last mpg (pg 656): https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM47D44U/pdf/OM47D44U.pdf

Don't use 0W-16 in your Tacoma unless the dealer has official documentation from Toyota approving it. 0W-16 has lower film strength at operating temps, so it could result in greater engine wear in engines not designed for it.

"• The 16 in 0W-16 indicates the viscosity characteristic of the oil when the oil is at high temperature. An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions."

I run 0W-30 because I do burnouts and hammer my engine at redline :D

Well, if it’s your truck you can do whatever you like.

But as the old saying goes, just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

Stick 0w-20 in it and move on with life. I doubt any dealers are sticking 0w-16 in Tacomas. I bet Rachel the social media intern fucked up a coupon again

Dealers should not be using 0W-16 in Tacomas at all. There has been no communication from Toyota about its compatibility. It's used in the new Dynamic Force 4 cylinders (new Corolla, RAV4, some Priuses/Priuii)

Motul does make some great oil though, been running it in my GTI for years. Still don’t know if I would trust oil that thin even though the engine would be designed for it.

Y’all do whatever prius and gti owners do.

I’m gonna do what toyota recommends, what Tacoma owners do.

I doubt they would just use 0w16 in your Tacoma. It probably cost more then 0w20 and more Toyotas use 0W20 so they would have more of that in stock. It would eat into their profit margins.
