    I NEED SUGGESTIONS:

I am towing my Dad's 2014 Dodge Avenger(3040Lbs.) and the Uhaul tow dolly is 750lbs. I don't believe when I got my new, courtesy of Toyota Frame Recall Frame in June of 2020, they changed my rear diff fluid.

WILL THE TRUCK BE ABLE TO HANDLE IT? I am putting the LC Engineering Pro Clutch 2 and heavier flywheel on and the I already have the quill repair sleeve and oversized bearing on the transmission which didn't work. I'm also putting a new Toyota slave cylinder, the suggestion of PDM(the makers of the sleeve repair) to stop my squealing clutch. The slave cylinder is an updated version with the longer spring.

I forgot, I am also putting on the URD SHORT SHIFTER TOO! My gear stick is SOOOO misaligned 2nd looks like 4th, 4th looks like 6th, 1st looks like 3rd, and 3rd looks like 5th.

    Ii

BUT SHOULD I PUT HEAVIER IN FOR THE TOW OR STAY WITH 75W 90? I put in an East Coast Gear Supply bearing in my front diff with a friend and we must of crushed the new seal and the fluid we put in leaked out(done in 2019), and then had to tear it all apart and be kid glove and put a new one in.

COULD THE HEAVIER GEAR OIL CAUSE SEAL LEAKAGE WITH THE STRAIN?

    ANSWER ME THIS TOO PLEASE:
HOW ELSE SHOULD I PREPARE FOR A TOW LIKE THIS?
My truck will probably have by the time I make the trip 133k-134k

    Thanks,
    Brian

I don't see why not as long as your tongue weight isn't too heavy, if you have the tow package the truck is rated to tow 6400# when equipped with a trailer brake controller and trailer brakes and providing you don't have a lift, oversize tires, etc.
If you don't have the tow package your slightly over or right at the tow limit.

Put the correct weight and grade and go with a good synthetic gear oil and you should be fine.

    How far are you towing?
I would reccomend towing in 5th gear instead of 6th as 6th is overdrive.

It would be a good idea to check/change all fluids and give everything a good inspection.

    Thanks Dm.
should I get trailer brake controller and trailer brakes? What does that mean?

I also thought about putting helper springs? Superlift helper springs

You’ll be fine with 75-90, or 80-90 or even 90.
As to whether thicker gear oil cause leaks. Well that’s debatable.
I’m of the opinion NO, it doesn’t cause leaks. EXCEPT in the few rare occasions where it leaks out the breather. (Yes, mine did).
    Why? - I don’t know.

The problem/(leaks) usually occurs when the breather is stopped up.
This cause pressure to build in the differential and blows the fluid through/passed axle seal.

Trailer brakes are brakes (typically electric drum brakes) that a on a trailer that assist the tow vehicle in stopping, a trailer brake controller is the device that regulates the application of the trailer brakes when the vehicle brakes are applied.
Some U-Haul trailers have an integrated hydraulic brake system that doesn't require a brake controller.

    How far are you towing?
    Hilly or flat terrain?
If your tongue weight is so much that you need helper springs I would find a larger truck to tow with, the Tacoma's axle bearings aren't all that robust to be adding alot of extra weight to the back end.

I’d want trailer brakes on anything over 3,000 lbs.
I know guy that’s pulled over 3k lbs with no brakes.
It sucks. It’s not fun, and you need to use the engine to help stop.

Do your best to obtain a dual axle trailer with trailer brakes.

My terrain will be hilly and flat.....PA, OH, IN, IL. I will also be hauling my elderly parents and my little dog and luggage.

I thought about a Uhaul tow dolly. It is rated @ 750lbs and the car is 3,040 lbs=3,790, plus my parents who aren't that big(mom 100lbs, dad 180, myself 200lbs.

My hitch is a factory Toyota hitch rated @ 5,000lbs. The factory tow rating is 6,500lbs tow capability. thought helper springs might keep from causing rear squat.

My towing estimate is probably about 500-600 miles

So since I have a hitch, I must have the tow package-Y,N?

Thanks for the clarity on the gear oil. I might go with 80-90 synthetic.

The easiest way to tell is if it has an oil cooler or not, if it does you have the tow package, if it doesn't you probably don't.

    Those u-haul transporter are heavy.
The tow dolly aren’t heavy. Just be sure to look it over good. Especially the wheel straps.

I also run 80w-90 in the rear of my truck. It isn’t synthetic. But that’s a different story.

Ok, I never saw anything like that connected to my oil filter apparatus(name escaping me). I will have to check. IF IT DOESN'T CAN I ADD IT?

Would a catch can do the trick, or act like one?

Do our trucks come with synthetic gear oil or natural?

Should I upgrade my bearings before I pull it? Lots of miles 133K.

    ANSWER THIS TOO:
SHOULD I DO HELPER SPRINGS FOR CONTROL AND DRAG AND SAG COEFFCIENT?
I'm trying to sound like there what I am talking about. DO YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND? lol!!!

You could probably add the cooler.
But I think you are over thinking it.
You have a Manual Transmission. Use the gears, don’t lug the engine.

The Automatic transmission is the one I’d worry more about if it DIDN’T have a cooler.

As for bearings. No, I would worry about them.

You need to worry more about stopping the trailer than anything else. I’d be looking into a trailer brake controller.

Not yelling. I do that for emphasis. people can call it yelling, what I want to emphasize I capitalized. No matter what the social media world says, I WILL CAPITALIZE TO EMPHASIZE., they don't control how I type.

I don't want to get an F-250 because this truck is a stick. 2nd, I have a newer frame. And why in the world would you suggest getting an F-250 on a Toyota site, you should have said, "get a Tundra.'
