    Hi All,

Hope this is in the right place... I'm new to the forums. Anywho, after months of searching for something reasonable I am looking to buy my first Taco this weekend. I found a nice deal on an '08 2.7 5-speed regular cab with low miles but there is one detail I'm trying to resolve before I pony up the dough - do the '08 4-bangers come pre-wired for cruise control/fog lights/ etc.? I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere. I do a lot of freeway commuting and roadtripping so cruise is a must for me. If they are not wired, does anybody know of a good detailed tutorial for a non pre-wired cruise install? Also, if there is some sort of detailed list that specifies which models ARE pre-wired that would be helpful.

Thanks for any insight you all can lend!

There's no way to know if a truck is pre-wired just based on model year.

I'll see if i can find the tutorial on how to check

My 2014 was *NOT* prewired. Found this out after installing the stalk and all the other stuff you have to buy. Sucked horribly but I did it all within a few hours of my own time. I bought the clutch stop and cruise stalk kit from eBay.

So I was thinking it was wired but maybe not so much now!
I was also under the impression that the stock and mt bypass stuff was all that was needed. Same for the intermedate wipers?
I kinda struggle keeping up on the interstate we have a 65mph limit here but I need to down shift on hills if I don't get a run on them. I am +1 on tire size (265/75/16) and have leveled (at times nose high) but stock otherwise. My mpg sucks on the interstate but is pretty impressive on our secondary roads. I kinda drive barefoot with razor blades for a gas peddle. BUT it seems at like 80mph my OD kicks in and mpg is way better. Never really could get a MT with OD?
Points and fines but mainly RPM I choose our secondary routes adds about 8-10 minutes to my one way 25 mile commute.

So did you find a wiring assembly to make it all work. I wasn't prewired and installed everything just as you did but I still do not have anything operational because I need some sort of wiring harness to get it up and running

I own one of the same yr and specs. Installed fog lights myself. Mine were pre wired. Not sure about cruise control tho

I had to install a clutch stop switch behind the clutch pedal, run wires under the dash to the ECU behind the glovebox. Also had to run a wire from behind the fuse panel to the ECU. All "instructions" are on the eBay listings for the cruise stalk kit/clutch stop kit. Took quite a bit of trial and error and lots of swearing. At least the parts are cheap. I go on frequent 1,000+ mile road trips, not having cruise wasn't an option.

Thanks for the info, everyone. I wish there was an easy way to see if the thing is pre-wired when I take a look at it at the dealership. From what I can find it seems like the '05 to '11 models have a higher likelihood of being prewired than the '12+ models. I also am seeing a lot of people say that NONE of the regular cab models are pre-wired for cruise since (I think) that was never an option from Toyota unless you ordered at least an access cab model. I was hoping I could find at least one person with an '08 2.7 reg cab that could confirm cruise control pre-wiring in their truck so I have at least some hope haha

    Contact these guys.

    http://www.rostra.com/search.php

They should hook you up with just the necessary wires and connectors.

    Here is the install pdf.
    http://www.rostra.com/manuals/250-1836_Form5188F.pdf

My 2011 was not prewired. But all I had to extra do was run a wire from the ecu and one extra wire in the steering wheel.

Its not the tough really. Read the pdf linked.

The above is for 2009 and later, but the rostra guys can help ya out.

Don't know for sure, but I would think the chassis harness would be the same. Something like the clock spring would may not have the conductors for the cruise.
Who has the wiring diagram? Lol

Edit: read the install guide linked above. Blows this theory out of the water...:jellydance:

Found something on the rostra website that might be useful to determine what Tacoma's are pre-wired. I put red boxes around the information on their form #5156. It states that all V6 Tacoma's require the ECM harness. I'm guessing that is accurate up to 2008 because their form #5188 covers 2009-2013 Tacoma's. Form #5188 does not have this same information.IMG_0980.PNG.jpg

Subbing. My 2009 base reg cab manual 2wd came wired with a functioning aftermarket kit including clutch stop. How hard would it be to add the OEM switch?
