I am seeking help regarding the white fuse located in the engine compartment fuse box on a 06 Tacoma. As you stand outside the car on the drivers side facing the passenger side, the fuse is located in the left row and is the 4th fuse running from the drivers side towards the passenger side. It is bright white in color. I was towing a snowmobile trailer that was just rewired and for trailer lights stopped working as did the heat in the cab. I tried to look figure out if a fuse was blown-it was dark and cold and I ended up pulling out the above described white fuse and dropped it into the engine compartment-never to be seen again.
Since then I have made 4 trips to 2 dealers and made 2 calls to Toyota USA in an effort to get a new fuse. I have been told that this fuse is called a "short pin" and the part number is 82824-20140. That fuse does not fit. The dealer could not make it fit. It does not even look like the one I lost. It is crazy-they are unable to find the fuse. I spent hours trying to source this fuse and and getting very frustrated.
In the event I can ever get past this fuse issue I then need to figure out what happened to the heat. Thanks if you can help.

The Short Pin is NOT a fuse. It is exactly what it is called a Short Pin in that when removed from the Tacoma it disconnects part of the electrical circuits that could drain the battery during storage and shipment as per the prints for the 2005 these circuits are: ECU-B, Dome Light and Radio NO.1.

It is basically a jumper connection that ties those circuits into the electrical system.

Call it what you will, I need to stick that thing in the fuse box and Toyota has no idea what it is so I do not have dome lights or radio until I can buy that thing that you stick in the fuse box.

Your dealer may be playing stupid, but they do know what it is as EVERY New vehicle that comes in they have to install that short pin into the proper location in order for it to work. This is done during the pre-delivery phase when the vehicles are being prepared for sale.

IAW my information the part number that they gave you is correct and should work.

If all else fails and you cannot locate the short pin link. You can make a jumper using two properly sized male spade connectors and a short piece of 12 gauge wire and just jump across the connectors.

Isn’t there a diagram on the underside of the box lid? Might have some info there...

You might want to post a pic so there’s no question about what fuse you mean. Are you sure you’re looking for the short pin? Good Luck OP.

If you can't find the right part you could just put a regular mini fuse in it's place. I think the largest mini they make is 40A. Here is my short pin next to a 20A fuse.

Any salvage yards near you that it could be sourced from?

Per Toyota Technical Support, you must order the fuse block in order to get this part. Foolish in my opinion, but it's their answer to the ST fuse debacle.

    Hi DaMan,

The short pin you are seeking is not available separately. It is included with PNC 82741, engine room relay block. Order PNC 82741 to

    get the short pin.

    Thank you.

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
That is insane. I'd be scouring junk yards. Tacomas, Tundras... Anything late model. Good luck.
