    Hey all, new guy here.

Long & short: Regrettably bought a 250k mile rust bucket and fell in love with it over a 6k mile trip. Discovered oxidation, welded in a mix of safe-t-cap frame replacements/fabricated frame rail bits. Rebuilt gas tank mounts, rehabbed the rear...

The current issue: Front suspension overhaul with a mix of OEM/OME/555 parts.

After lots of angle grinding, PB blasting, torching I finished the passenger side. Started on the drivers and broke 1/4 LBJ bolts. NO problem I thought, welded on a nut to the broken bolt and sheered it further down. Welded another nut on, broke that. Welded the end of another bolt, sheered that right off too. Drilled out the bolt progressively and carefully but in the end I was off center and ruined the threads.

Time to replace the knuckle. What I need help with is understanding what I need to buy in addition to a knuckle. Should I go OEM, used on ebay, rockauto parts?

    Looking at this part:
    https://tinyurl.com/bddxd68n

    Parts I may need:
looks like it comes with an upper ball joint, but I can't find solid info on that
    New wheel bearing?
ABS bracket I don't foresee coming off in once piece..
    ditto with brake line bracket..
    flexible brake lines??
anything in the hub that cant be reused?

Any help clarifying what's involved in this type of job - things I should look for, past experiences ETC would be VASTLY helpful.

Thanks all and sorry for the long first post.

    Easy replacement.

    You can source a spindle easily at a junkyard or used market from a 1995.5 - 2004 Tacoma or 1996 - 2002 4Runner.

Wheel bearings will be the same for any 6 lug model mentioned above whether 2 or 4 wheel drive.

You'll just need a wheel hub for your ADD setup.

Bushings get pressed in by the way.

Only difference between said spindles will be the ABS bracket (or lack thereof) and that's it.

    Thanks for the info Kwik,

    To clarify I should buy:
    -used spindle
    -new wheel bearing
    -new UBJ
-new abs/brake line brackets if not on replacement spindle

    Then:
-have hub from existing spindle swapped in (or do I have to buy a new one?)
-press in bearing, install UBJ/brackets and install spindle

A little confused as to how the 4x4 ADD unit interfaces with the hub to be honest.

The ABS tab is either present, or not. You don't add it on there; just look at your current spindle to see if you have ABS or not (most likely you do based on the year).

As for the hub, it gets pressed in.

I only mentioned ADD so it comes to mind when you look up and price out replacement parts as you'll find either one for a Prerunner, one for 4x4 manual hub, and one for 4x4 ADD.

Koyo bearings shouldn't cost much by the way, so just use quality parts for a one and done solution.

If I were sourcing a new spindle, I'd consider rebuilding the other side with the same new components as well. bearings, seals, etc. @Kwikvette got you set on details. My suggestion is just to rebuild both sides so they are same-ies.

Got it. I understand the ABS situation now, Will looks for Koyo bearings/seals.
You were mentioning the 4x4 ADD to make sure I buy a spindle capable of accepting the ADD hub I already have - or to insure I buy a new ADD hub? - that is I believe the last dumb question I have for you.

Thanks Kwik for the quick and informational responses.

To Andy: Yeah, you're definitely right. Usually I'm all for replacing symmetrically, I've just blown the budget wide open. Originally thought I could get away with tie rods on the pass side.. next thing you know I'm in for inners/outters, LBJ, full spring/shock assemblies.

So far I've DIY'ed everything but I'm no pro. I know just enough and have just enough tools to get myself into trouble. But - I'm gonna have to pay for labor for this spindle swap I think. I guess I'll ask my mech what the additional cost would be for pass side wheel bearings.
