I'm looking at a 2002 Tacoma with the 2.7 auto and factory 4.56 gears. If I buy it I want to be able to run 305/70/16s on aftermarket wheels. Obviously i will need a lift...how much lift? Recommendations of a certain lift kit ? Also, will I need to regear ? Thanks

Google the "pinch weld mod" you're going to rub the fenders and or frame.

What are your goals for the truck? Pavement princess, off road toy, dd or some combination of those?

I'm running 285/75r16's and after doing the pinch weld mod i dont rub the inner fender but i do rub the frame at full lock when i turn left or right.

Lift won't help you clear the frame or the fenders when the suspension articulates or you turn hard.

Gonna shamelessly promote some shocks I'm selling while in here. I just took off a set of OME nitrocharger sports with 880 coils and top plate spacers. They have less than 10k miles on them. :anonymous: they would give you some lift over stock, not sure how much. Your 2.7is lighter than my 3.4 and im 4wd (more weight up front)

Looked up the mod you mentioned seems pretty cut n dry. I would prefer not to lift the truck if I don't have to. I like the wells to look full....
Hope to secure the truck this weekend. I already have a set of wheels and tires in the shop so hopefully I can get her all setup shortly after getting her home.

I'll keep the shocks in mind. Good chance I'll want to do some more mods once I get her in my possession.

Heres mine with a light tube bumper, ome nitrocharger sports, 880's and 3/4in coil spacers up front. The rear has nitrochargers and ome dakar leaf springs.

    Tires are 285/75r16's

I got a 4wd 2.7 auto with 4.56 gears. If yours is a Prerunner, it'll be a little better cause I got extra gears to turn, but my truck is a dog and it's on load range c 31s. Those tires are gonna suck

I've got 1.5" add a leafs and took the overloads out so it'd sit level. But I ran the same setup on just 2" up front

Appreciate it. Looking back, wish I just stuck with it but I've used that little bit of extra flex

Some guys have cleared 33's with no lift at all, they obviously would of had to cut quite a bit but if you dont want to lift thats something to keep in mind...id recomend a 2 or 2.5 inch lift though and just do the light trimming/cutting/bashing of that stupid pinch weld and that lil bit of plastic that covers the weld. As for frame rub youre gunna want to get 3.5 or 3.75 inch back space wheels to clear. If running a 12.5" wide tire im not sure if a 4" BS will clear or not, it would be very close. I personally run 12.5's on a 3.5" BS wheel and am nowhere near the frame, not even close. But in your case being more of a DD youre gunna pry wanna keep your BS a lil higher(bigger number) more in the 3.75 to 4 inch range, keeping your stance a lil narrower while still keeping from rubbing the dang frame!

Front is sketchy garage fab from craigslist and the rear is made by AVID. Its a 1 off with a hidden hitch and raised about 2 inches to be flush with the bed since i don't have a tailgate.
