0 degree camber alignment

    I recently did a 1.5/1.5" lift via 4th perch via 5100's and 3AAL. Truck drove great but I got an alignment anyway and noticed that my front wheels had a slight visual positive camber(tilt outward at the top). I got out the laser level to confirm this and calculated that I had a half a degree or more of POSITIVE camber. This seemed really weird to me and I took it back to my alignment place(I've used them for over 20 years). It had a +.6 camber and +1 caster and was within factory specs. I told him I didn't like the idea of positive camber and asked if he would make it closer to 0. He obliged me and here's my new specs. Why would Toyota do a positive camber?

    Do my numbers seem OK? Truck drives great but being at the bottom end of specs is causing me to 2nd guess my request of 0 degree camber.

    Disregard the toe, the wheel was slightly turned when this pic was taken.

    So the more camber you have the more caster you have, more caster is actually better than low camber.

    Toyota uses positive camber on their IFS trucks simply due to suspension variable load and off camber road use.

    Oddly though the 4runner specs are zero and they are nearly similar.

    I always say with lifted trucks and stock arms, you want at least 1.5 caster, and less than 1 degree of camber.

    If you want zero camber and more than 2 degrees of caster, you need aftermarket arms.

    1 degree of caster isn't enough for me. It rides much better the closer to 2 you can get.

    Edit: lastly it looks like you're running low toe as well, with bigger tires (assumed) it has outward force and causes negative toe. So I always bump it up a hair for 32s and 33s. Never ever zero.

    Not near enough caster… I would want more positive camber

    This is where he put after I asked for a little less camber. I kind of wish I'd left it here. Although I doubt I can tell the difference driving it.

    This was more ideal, although I try to balance left and right a bit better.

    Either way, drive it, and if the tire wear is goofy, just get it re-aligned in a few months.

    Give them a reason to re-align it. Go offroading and bang aroud the new suspension.

    I appreciate the response. It dives good to me.... it tracks straight down the road, the wheels wants to center itself at speed and coming out of a corner. I'm just trying to understand why Toyota recommends the positive camber(wheels not being perpendicular with the ground).... especially when you consider that tires normally wear on the outside edge. :notsure: I'd hate to be in that line of work and deal with people like me, lol. :oops:

    Also, he is willing to adjust to it again but I don't really have a reason to get him to do it.

    That makes sense but isn't the travel typically just like it is when the alignment is being done? I'm typically driving straight and not down a road with a bunch of suspension demands. I feel like I'm missing something.
