Saw this bare bones 4x4 sr at crown Toyota here in SoCal msrp of 38k looks like it was a stealership transfer from lake havasu and they drove it over as it was covered in bugs

If it was an Xtra Cab that was Silver, Gray, or Red for that price or less. I still want factory foglights. Toyota, and their dealers need to do better.

Ideally but I'd rather DIY versus pay some insane markup

Knock off $20k with no preloads and I'll believe your premise. Until then it's just another ridiculously priced stripped Tacoma. I could have gotten a loaded Sport for a few grand less last year.

It was crazy easy to add fogs to my 2021. I'd imagine with the new "accessory" cubby in the 4th gen its even easier.

XtraCab should make the price a little cheaper. Supersonic Red is a $425 upcharge.

In this economy it is... find me a new half ton pickup with 4x4 that is under $40k. I bet you can't, so it's priced right for midsized.

For perspective a base trim level Frontier is going for $37k. (same config, four door 4x4)

Nope not true … can find better prices on Nissan Chevy ..ford … that are more equipped than a basic Tacoma .at least in my region … these glorified trucks are so overpriced.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I know I'll probably start a :crapstorm: with this, but have you priced a truck that's not a Tacoma?

Base Ford Ranger (XL) Crew Cab, 4x4, no add on's is 37,900 according to the website. (Link to the build page below.) Why is everyone so P#$!@$# off for Toyota doing what everyone who makes cars has done after a redesign of the truck? Toyota is simply matching what the market has already done, and IMPO, bringing a better product. Knowing the (lack of) quality in the domestic market I personally wouldn't buy anything coming out of Detroit right now.

Must be nice to get raises to keep up with inflation. My income hasn’t changed since 2018 and I have to buy cars for myself, my wife and my daughter.

I don't like the phrase 'in this economy'... no.. none of this is justifiable in this economy.. all these manufacturers are looting by using the same excuse. A bare bones tacoma with just the basics should not cost more than $25-28k and i feel like i am being honestly fair here. I understand that majority of this cost may go into the mandatory safety features or the standard ones that toyota feels like they would like to make standard throughout all their vehicles but 38k for an SR? no thanks. I am a big toyota fan, majority of our cars are toyotas but some of these prices do not make sense.

I just priced a Ranger in above post. Your talking about going out to dinner money and not having a list of recalls to go back and have fixed. Ford just announced a recall on 230k Mavericks because the tail lights may not light up. Take your chances with Detroit. I'm out.

To add on to what i wrote.. i do not think it is just toyotas but also other manufacturers that do this.. barebones on other trucks should not start in the 30s

I didn't say Toyota was perfect. But they are far down the list on the number and severity of recalls.
