I’m all for turbos, blow off valves, loud pipes, etc… I’ve had a couple stage 3 upgrades on track cars in the past. It’s not the sound of a turbo that’s annoying here it’s the high pitched flute whistle and proximity to the passengers ear with the windows open. It’s a daily driver and an off road rig, not a performance sports car, and this does not offer any real performance in most environments.

You don’t like the blow off sound with the window down? I think it’s cool.

sure - but with windows up it’s not bad. And the blow off sounds good. Yes the intake whistle sound isn’t that cool but I’ve never felt the need to silence it. To each their own.

I thought it was one of the unique features of the trailhunter trim. I didn't mind it on the test drive.

So I’m curious, which is the bigger potential dealbreaker: whistling snorkel (TH), or IsoDynamic (Pro)?

If I’m being absolutely honest, they both come off as expensive gimmicks, and at a mid-sixties price point make a RR look awfully attractive.

Depends what you’re into. But I’m curious. Is an RAI/“snorkel” a gimmick only when Toyota does it or does it also count as a gimmick when Range Rover, ineos, jeep, Chevy do it?— it does have some utility or it wouldn’t be such a common upgrade. Sure it’s not necessary but if you’re doing long range travel in dusty conditions it’s useful to keep the filter clean and performing (Australian off-roaders use them more than we do). I kind of love that toyota jumped the shark on these trucks. Most of the truck itself is over the top and that’s kind of the appeal. Will I ever need the rock rail that can take half the truck’s GVWR? Probably never, but I like having it. You don’t have to buy one. Ranger Raptor may be a good option. My brother has one and likes it.

I agree with your logic; As I’m sure you’ll also find plenty of folks out there who’d make a practical use case for seats with shock absorbers that delete the rear legroom…However, most who never lost sleep over desert air might’ve expected a snorkel for wading, b/c desert air isn’t going to leave you stuck in a remote creek bed. But even still, to each their own.

Point is, that for those of us who call gimmick on Toyota but would still prefer to buy the Tacoma over a RR (myself included), just make it an option and give us a break on the sticker.

That is just not how the toyota manufacturing model works. I think buying a hybrid OR like you did is the way to go if you don’t like all the pomp and circumstance of the halos. Most people who get the halos want all the nonsense.
