suspension noises like that are a feel thing....
have someone turn the wheel & re-produce the noise while you actually touch all the various suspension components & you want to "feel" the noise....
When you isolate it, you will really feel the vibration noises through the part & into. your hand...
    Or a good mechanics stethoscope.....
Could even be in the steering shaft or the electronic rack....
Sitting under your truck & staring at the suspension trying to. visually locate the smoking gun isnt going to happen...

Once again, not something I would neglect & close my eyes cuz you dont want to deal with the service dept...
I will never understand that, dont try & explain it, as I would never side with that mentality......
    TAKE IT IN!!!!

Yeah, that's loud enough to be of concern. Guaranteed the dealer will blame the wheels and tires though, since not stock. Hope you or a good mechanic can track this noise down. I wouldn't stop until I found it lol.

Not going to neglect or ignore it or let the service dept off the hook. That’s not my personality. What I do is try to pre-diagnose it and get evidence of the issue so the service dept can’t fuck me around. Just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Also, the sound is intermittent and normally happens at full lock. Either way I’m not ignoring anything.

engine is actually running in the video???
You will get all sorts of F'd up noises if engine is off & your trying to man-handle the wheel.
I dont think you are, but have to ask.....
That wheel doesnt turn easy at all with engine off....
in the video, youre barely moving the wheel & wheels are relatively straight, so far from lock to lock.

Of course engine is on! I’m not a dumbass. This is one of the rarer times it did it when I wasn’t lock to lock so I decided to make the video and capture it.

I am 12K miles. When I do my 15K mile service I’ll tell the dealer and have my research completed.

New truck under warranty shouldn’t cost you a dime.

I think he was implying that it will cost xxx to checkout & if covered under warranty we will take care of it & waive all charges...
thats generally how things are handled in questionable scenarios, larger tires, wheels, etc.....

Never happened to me. They just check things out. They never mention wheels or tires. Could be because they modify a bunch of their own trucks before selling them. I’ve even asked them before and they say nah this setup isn’t crazy.

I’ve got some popping as well… can’t seem to isolate it just yet. Took a vid to try to capture it, which it does. Sitting at Toyota service center this AM for them to chk it out. They appreciated having the video.

I do have different front springs, and the more I hear it, it *seems* like it could be the springs shifting slightly on the perch or rubbing on the top hat.

Dealer discretion, and you might get more sympathy/leeway from the dealer you actually bought it from. If you don’t like how one dealer sees it, take it to another.

A “200 bucks to look at it under warranty” response might come up if there’s some very obvious mods going on or signs of off-road abuse. But then, not having to modify a TH is the whole purpose of spending a 67 grand on it, thus not needlessly risking denied warranty claims.

Interested to see the outcome of this whodunnit.

Swapping wheels in my view is not a huge deal and is barely a modification. I’m running 33” standard load tires.

Agree on that. Hopefully they figure it out for you, and the others. Good luck.

They acknowledged that it was popping and clunking but couldn’t figure out what it was. They put me in a loaner RAV4 so they could keep it and try to replicate. They said it’s perfectly quiet on the lift and seems to happen when on the ground with weight on the components.

interesting - yeah I figured getting it up on the lift would not help - good on them for trying to diagnose. Super interested in what it could be

Personally I wouldnt wait for 3k miles to get it figured out, not a good idea...
I would have dropped it off yesterday....
Send them the video & drop it off, dont even make an appt, drop it off....
No need for you to try & figure things out, or isolate, so they cant give you the run around which I do get, you want to get your duck in a row....
My truck has a collar lid, different wheels, bigger tires, etc...
I HAVE ZERO NOISE, NOT A GRUNT, SQUEEK, CREEK, NOTHING!!!!
Duplicate the noise for them on the drive & leave it....
    yesterday.....

Dont except we cant find the cause....
They verified it & not normal...
When you guys lay on the sword & except we dont know, its normal, etc, is when you give them the green light to not do their jobs correctly....
This would never fly at ford.....

Doesnt surprise me it doesnt make the noise when wheels aren't loaded with weight, doesnt mean their isnt an issue....
Could be simple as a loose steering shaft pinch bolt....
loose as in just not tight enough allow slop within the splines but visually looks fine..
Heard a very similar noise on many fords over the years..
