TD dinged me for $500 this year since my Taco is prone to theft. To drop the charge, I have to install a 3rd party tracker or ignition disabling system. At some point I'll call them up to bitch as my vehicle has a standard transmission, no push button start and I've signed up for Toyota's tracking system. I also threw an airtag in as a backup.

Whoa whoa there, media brain washing in full effect brother. Put the TV in OFF mode. o_O

My truck just this year hit 10 years, which is the minimum they must stock parts for. I thought Toyota did longer, not minimum.

Morning from the East Coast!

I would agree with the above, I work in Data Privacy and so many questions come up with wanting to put a tracker in the truck.
    1) possible wiring issues from installer
    2) data logging, what protections do they have around YOUR PERSONAL data. Where is the data stored? ( Canada? USA? Europe? ) will they be following Canadian Regulatory mandates for data protection? etc...
    3) is it "live data" meaning does it work all the time, or will it only "track" once some one flags the vehicle as stolen?
    4) could it be used against you? ( higher rates if you go above speed limits, run stop signs etc... )

I know this sounds a bit over the top, and "Big Brother-ish" but data breaches are happening more and more frequently, Every other month it seems we hear about some large company that had a data breach and how that breach leaked personal data. This is a form of personal data. One that I feel is not required by an insurance company for the sole purpose of.... of what? is Desjardin's going to actually retreive your vehicle for you in a timely fashion? nope. Its handed off to the OPP, or RCMP who may or may not follow up on it. I really don't see the point.

I'm with the others. I would try to avoid it as long as possible

I'll step down from my soap box now.

And they were gonna ding me another $500 surcharge if I didn't provide a semen sample and my home wi-fi password.

I've seen $1200 install cost mentioned in the 4Runner FB group...

Your '21 will drop off the high-risk list after two years or so anyway due to age. I suggest shopping around rather than installing a tracker. It's usually a good idea to shop around insurance companies every couple of years if you have a clean record, since they typically take advantage of loyalty by increasing rates.

True, a benefit of vehicle age is lower rates.

    Check build thread!
    I pay 1800 a year on a 04 Crown Vic, and 2280 a year on my 2021 Tacoma.

    The joys of being 21.

Through the 2nd gen's production run, there were four ignition coil P/Ns for the V6, two of which are no longer available in Toyota's parts catalog. The part counter lady probably looked at one of the two without knowing to check for superseding P/Ns.

    upload_2025-2-26_21-11-24.png

She did you a favor though, because the MSRP at the dealer for a single ignition coil is $218:

while the same Denso part on Parts Avatar is $74:

let me tell you about these places for OEM stuff as well that I use more often than anything local nowadays, even after shipping and taxes it's still less what delaer offers. Epecially if you buy in bulk.

    https://en.impex-jp.com/

    https://www.amayama.com/en

    https://partsouq.com/

    Exibit A:
    https://www.toyotapartsdirect.ca/p/47774834/48630-60010.html

From Japan (USD, but still less than half):
    https://en.impex-jp.com/parts/new/search/1/4863060010.html

I saved over $1500 using out of county suppliers for the same OEM parts just in that little box, and around $10,000 CAD overall so far while rebulding LX...

For anything else aftermarket - rock auto still the best option 9/10 time.

I use TheWrenchMonkey.ca as well depending on price and stock status. Both allow local pickup near Pearson.

Another site that's been on my radar is www.megazip.net but I haven't needed anything from them (so far).

Edit: I should note that my local Toyota parts dept. is good to me for many things. I'm a regular customer and they understand that they're not the only game in town. They unfortunately can't help me when the genuine Toyota part is like four or six or 10 times the price of a good quality aftermarket part.

Yeah, I got Japanese fleet of rust buckets worth a couple beers at most.

00 LX - work in progress
05 4Runner - shit the aftermarket rack after a year, at least I got good milage out of it, now I am working on fitting 5th gen 4Runner OEM rack ($950 for 5th gen vs $1900 for 4th gen OEM rack)...
03 Camry V6- no working airbags, check engine on, all ripped bushings and leaking fluids - DD YOLO it
09 (the newest now!) Ford Fucking Ranger - most reliable out of all of them, it just keeps going!

New tool organization for the truck tools. Not as small as I had before but having everything organized was important since the truck set is becoming my mobile set and searching for stuff is getting old.

    IMG_0571.jpg
Even went through and coloured my sockets so they were more visible. Green for metric and red for merica IMG_0572.jpg

all goes into a bag but can be used in the cap with the magnetic mounting
