Is your website correct when it states you charging $81 to ship the smart cap cross bars? Their (Smartcap) website is stating free shipping then links to you as an online dealer.

I just bought some small trymag magnets and will cut bug cloth and some blackout cloth to size. I got the topper tent for steel toppers, and they use a similar (but much larger diameter) style magnet that holds the tent in the cap really well.

Whatever they are using now seems to be working well - I have the new(er) version of the Smartcap with this feature and so far so good.

I got mine installed awhile back and with the PNW rain we’ve had it leaked pretty good. The company that did the install contacted RSI and they confirmed they had a bad batch of seals on the USA caps. They shipped out new seals and they are currently replacing them. I should know next heavy rain we’ve get how effective the new seals are.IMG_0062.jpg

Shipping is from our location to your ship to address. We order these in bulk with RSI and eat shipping to us on them to have inventory available to our customers. We order in larger quantities so orders placed direct with RSI may put you hundreds back in line behind anyone who has an open order with them, including us, where we have pallets arriving. So generally orders through us arrive to the customer in a quicker timeframe than direct. If you want to DM me, I can see what we can do about shipping options and see if theres any ability to get some better pricing!

Been considering to get a cap for my truck and the RSI Adventure is one of two that are on the top of my list. Read a few dozen pages of this thread and haven't seen any comments about how people are maintaining the matte black paint on their smartcap. While I love the look- I've always stayed away from matte painted vehicles because they require special maintenance to keep looking nice and you can't wax it like gloss paint to help protect. Did RSI do something special with their paint that reduces the effort to maintain the paint or are people just "f**k it, it's a truck, it's supposed to look like I used it hard."

We have some customers who ceramic coat their caps, but the most just run with the factory finish.

Is there a trick to replacing the round rubber keyhole covers on the smartcap locks?

For one reason or another people keep recklessly breaking them off (I need to thin those friends). Thankfully I have some spares from my first round of crap latches.

Everytime I replace one by pushing the little rubber tab into the slot with a flathead screwdriver I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Is there a better trick to this?

Get it started with the screwdriver and pull through with a small pair of pliers

I can't remember if I ever replied to this. But... here goes. Awning has L'Brackets, those mount to the top of the RSi Load bars. RTT sits over top of the Bolt ends. It's pretty spot on.

Loving it so far! It did leak at the roof seams. I rechecked torque and everything was good. So I put caulk on the seam and all is well!
I couldn’t find molle plates that fit good so I machined some. Love how the doors have the panels in them!!
    Also installed some kingpin lights!

Over all very happy with it. Much, much better than the soft topper!!!

Got our SmartCap just last weekend.
No leaks with the hose test, so that is already better than the 20 year old fiberglass ARE it replaced. :)
    I'm getting used to it.

How are you guys running the wires for lights and such?
I really wish they had made holes in the gussets for running wires!

Don't give me any more ideas!
The box is for tools, a compressor, Morrflate system, hand saw, etc.
There are also 3 or 4 other boxes that slide under the platform, those hold the camp stove, pots and pans, and canned stuff/coffee etc.
The platform is 2 pieces and can go in and out easily if needed.
I am also going to mount our old fold-out camp table to the inside roof of the SmartCap, who needs their fancy slide-out table when I can just drill a couple of holes in our 15 year old plastic one?

I take advantage that it is steel. Plenty of different magnets for wire cabling like these:

    Those will work, thanks!
@snickers have you noticed the magnet mounts attracting metallic dust around them?

I was going to do a proper write up on this but haven't had time. So I'll just add some link and photos on this thread.

This was the best solution I came up with for having switches at each door to turn the lights on and off. I installed a box with a On/Off/Dimmer switch at the back of the truck.
This is where I made all my terminations for the switches to be in parallel. I'll add a wiring schematic I did, which I'm sure any electrical engineer will laugh at it. lol
The links are things I needed. Some stuff I got from round the shop. Let me know if you have any questions about anything. Happy to help.
