About Us

Our company invented the oil drain valve in 1976. Since then, tens of millions of our valves have been produced and used globally from commercial trucks, construction machines, generators, boats, automotive, pickup trucks, motorcycles, and many other applications.

In 1984, Fumoto Engineering of America was founded and our valves were introduced to the United States. Since then, many companies have adapted our valves to be used on their applications.     I just installed Fumoto valve on my 17 Tacoma. I also attached clear tubing as you can see on the picture. Instruction said to hand tight then 1/8 turn but I hand tightened and used torque wrench at 15lb/ft. It turned about 1/2 but I don’t think it will have any negative effect. Cut the tubing I added at where it will clear skid plate. The picture is before skid plate reinstalled: Funoto valve itself is further back in from skid plate and no part of it sticking out. 17 Tacoma OR double cab w 6spd manual, Fumoto valve F133s.

    This new(ish) model has a larger diameter to allow oil to drain faster than the older models. Some engines, particularly several of the Toyotas, really need their oil changed every 5,000 miles to keep the oil control rings on the pistons working properly. Having this valve makes the job that much easier and saves getting out a wrench. The shorter length also minimizes the chance road debris could whack it and cause it to be torn from the oil pan. That is a situation is concerning to some people with this valve as compared to a bolt, but since most cars have protective belly pans, I would think the chance is very low of this ever occurring. These valves have been in use on a ton of cars for a very long time and work extremely well. Having this valve also prevents the chance of stripping out pan threads by the "technicians" at oil change places that rush to do their jobs since they aren't removing and replacing the pan bolt every time. Mine had a cracked black retainer clip that is unusable, but it is not really needed as the tab/spring mechanism keeping the valve closed is 99.999% reliable. If there is a concern, you could zip-tie the lever to get the "belt (rotation), suspenders (spring and slot lock) and safety pin (clip or zip tie)" protection.

    The drain valve works as described and make oil changes as easy as swapping the filter - no other tools required. However, consider a few downsides:

    It takes longer to drain due to a reduced opening.
    It may not fit all vehicles, if you don't have enough clearance to accommodate another inch or two for the valve.
    Adds complexity and not as solid of a seal as a simple drain plug, so a one in a million failure may result in a catastrophic engine failure if it leaks.
    It was also shipped in a soft bag, which was banged up a bit, so who knows what abuse the valve took in transit.

    Overall, very happy with three of them that I have on my cars.

    I have replaced the oil plug on 3 vehicles with these. I have been using them for 4 years now and they work great. I have never had them leak a drop of oil. My one and only observation is that it can take the oil longer to drain vs removing the factory drain plug. Were only talking about adding 10 minutes your oil change. But to not have to use tools and be able to use a hose to drain directly into an old oil jug, you can’t beat it. I was worried at first about being on the road and having an issue. I store the original plug in the glove box in case its needed, but this has been great. If you are looking for a way to change your oil without tools and making a mess this is it. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

    I've bought several of these over the years and I really like them. I use an open end wrench on the body of the Fumoto to tighten it. If you've changed oil all your life like I have, you can estimate 25ish ft pounds of torque. I put this on my 2019 Nissan Frontier and it does hang down about an inch lower than the original plug. It will catch on a rock if you're rock climbing...lol... I laugh because if you're rock climbing in a Frontier, something is wrong with you. 99.999% of the time, that extra "hang down" won't be an issue. These are great!
