The part came in original Toyota packaging and looked to be of Toyota quality. There is 1 difference between the original plastic one and this one, there is a small metal clip that has to be removed to take off the factory plastic part. The clip appears to stop the filter housing from rotating and possibly coming loose. The new metal part does not have a location for that clip. If you torque the filter housing to the correct setting I doubt the filter housing would ever come loose.

Swapping from a plastic to metal housing on a 2022 4Runner it requires swapping the center tube from the old to new unit. This is simple but requires bending very thin metal tabs that could easily break. Wish I could order with the correct center tube instead but that's a Toyota issue.

Tundra 4.6L V8 with 144,000 miles: If you have a compatible Toyota cartridge oil filter, that came stock in plastic, it makes sense to upgrade to this filter housing. The center of the filter housing, a corrugated metal tube, does need to be swapped with the stock housing, but just look it up on YouTube…easy to do.
If you’ve already purchased a filter wrench for the plastic housing, it’s still compatible. There’s not as many flanges on the replacement metal housing, but the filter wrench works fine.
Very basic upgrade on a plastic part that is susceptible to thousands of heat cycles and possible raid debris (skid plate should protect, but you never know). Should be a stock part, but I guess Toyota had to cut corners somewhere…

I bought a used car and it came with a garbage chinese aftermarket oil filter housing, and looking at it side by side with the Toyota part, you can see the difference in manufacturing quality. $30 versus $20? Easy decision. I mean oil is the lifeblood of the vehicle, right.
