This was easy to install for an experienced do it yourselfer and looks very good on the car. It includes the installation directions which are easy to read and written in real English! It doesn't hang below the bumper like the others and includes the factory wiring harness. There was a TSB Acura issued for the 2014 model regarding this hitch and its wiring. This unit included the new wiring (which is not on the hitch harness itself, but is for the electronic trailer brake harness kit that you probably wouldn't use anyway - you toss it in the glove box if ever needed). I installed it on my 2014 MDX and it works perfectly. One thing to note, some of the main bolt holes in the cars frame can get dirt in the threads making the install bolts hard to drive in. A small round brush to clean them out is recommended. DO use a torque wrench to put them in. If you don't have one, rent one.

Great Hitch for 2016 MDX

This kit was a perfect fit for our 2016 MDX and contains all the parts including the bumper cover to make the installation look very clean. Installation was very straight forward except cleaning the frame nuts. I started cleaning them with a wire brush and penetrating oil (PB Blaster) but eventually ended up using a hand tap to clean out the threads. Once the threads were clean, I was able to easily install the hitch without needing to elevate the rear. There’s a great YouTube video (search Acura MDX oem hitch installation) that walks you through the entire process including the electrical portion. Although this kit is more expensive than 3rd party hitches, the end result justifies the price.

OEM kit included bumper insert and factory wiring harness so no surprises and looks like a dealer install. Relatively easy install but look online for videos that can be helpful and save time. Only issue was installing on an older MDX (2015) the 6 pre-drilled holes for hitch were rusted. Had to use a metric 14x1.5 tap to cleanup the threads, couple were in rough shape and tap not easy to find locally so suggest ordering on Amazon before install.

You pay a more for a genuine OEM part, but it sure makes it easy to install when it's custom fit. The simple step-by-step instructions available online make the project easy for anyone with a little mechanical ability and basic tools.

Unlike my older MDX, Acura adds to the cost by selling the wiring harness separate so be sure you are buying both and not just the hitch. The ball and optional transmission fluid cooler (for extra towing rating) are also separate.

Though this hitch receiver appears a bit over priced it is absolutely the slickest fit for the Acura that sets the hitch height just right, not to high or low, for ideal towing. Receiver looks like it belongs rather that an afterthought. Installed myself with son's assistance, it takes two people for the bolt to frame steps. From there you can go solo. A torque wrench is good, and though not mentioned by instructions, a thread locker is good insurance. Great instructions downloaded from Acura web site. Only advice is read the instructions thoroughly before starting then follow step by step. Don't get ahead of your self as the end result is a tight fit just under the bumper with no room for out of sequence fastener install. Well thought out procedures. Though not clear the instructions beginning steps are for front hitch installation so unless your setting up a boat launch hitch just skip to the rear bumper cover prep step to begin. Take your time with the wiring harness it takes a bit of finagling to route the inside harness to the existing fuse box. We did not install a trailer brake controller though the wiring is includes. I repeat - download and read the darned instructions before starting.

Compared to the aftermarket, this is the one you want. This package comes with the hitch, bumper insert and wiring. Instructions are best found via Youtube. It's easy enough if cumbersome to do yourself. Jackstands helped out. Some tips found (and watch the WHOLE video first to see these) -- cut out the bumper insert for the wire plug first, then install the insert, wiring has to go behind a piece on the insert so that's an intermediate step, there are two smaller bolts for the top of the insert, then finally the hitch. Once in, it looks factory( because it is), and will 100% allow room for a full size spare tire (on a 2016 Advance). This is a major benefit compared to the aftermarket that will not allow room. Came quickly and was packed well from an OEM dealer.
