How It Works

Why risk a lock out due to a lost key? Lock it down with BOLT, Breakthrough One-Key Lock Technology! Simply select your vehicle specific lock, insert your ignition key, turn it once and the lock mechanically and permanently learns the key code.

Lock Reset

BOLT Locks cannot be reset. For security reasons all BOLT Locks permanently learn the first key used on them. If you decided to upgrade your vehicle, check out our Customer Loyalty Program for more details.

    Matching it up to your key is a very simple process and it does work however the lock portion of this pin is so large that it sometimes makes it difficult to get large trailer hook chains through the holes on the trailer hitch. Simple fix was adding some high strength quick link to my hitch so that there is more space to hook up the chain. The red pin lock blocked access to the hole on the hitch. Might not be a problem for some vehicles but on my tundra it is.

    This is actually the second one I've bought for two different vehicles. One for my Dodge and now one for my Toyota. This makes it incredibly convenient to ensure you have the right keys with you all the time. I've used it to secure my hitch cover, but most convenient when using it for my travel trailer hitch. It's durable and well made and I have had no issue with it towing a ~5000 lbs trailer. Setting the key is very easy to do and I haven't had any issues with my previous one in regard to the key working. I've run this through overloading environments with plenty of water, dust, and mud with no issues. The cover/cap is convenient and has stayed on with no issues, keeping the key hole clean and debris free. Note: When you receive the product, ensure you see the sticker and plastic cover is in place. Otherwise, it may have already been keyed.)

    Overall, the durability, reliability, and convenience has been great. I would recommend.

    Install was easy enough, although I made sure the key was fully inserted into the core before trying to turn and set it. It took a little jiggling.

    As someone else mentioned, on my Tacoma, it blocks direct access to one of my safety hooks. I can still hook it on, but from underneath. Not a big deal for me.

    Only time will tell if the lock holds up. I had a similar capped MasterLock that jammed with corrosion. So as a preventative measure, I lubed up the inside of the lock core and pin lock areas.

    The only thing I didn't quite like was the Red color, as it really sticks out visually from the rear. So, I spray painted it and problem solved.
