Looking for recommendations for undercoating new Tacoma. Fluid film or woolwax seem to be the best options.. but I don't have a sprayer or compressor..How many spray bottles would do the underside? And any tips would be great .thanks, Don

LPS3 or Fluid Film. Buy a case.

I like WoolWax best but BP Blaster Surface Shield is awesome and can be found in a can. There is a YouTuber that compared it to others and it outlasted all of them by a decent margin.

For DIY spraying, CRC Marine, Cosmoline, Amsoil HDMP work the best. Takes about 6 cans to do the whole underside if you're thorough. Lasts several years and doesn't cause dirt to stick.

If you don't feel like crawling on the garage floor and want to get it sprayed at a shop, then Fluid Film, Rust Check, Woolwax, etc. are all similar. The care and thoroughness of the technician becomes a bigger factor.

I only just started using Fluid Film on things myself, so I can’t weigh in on how good it might be for undercoating. I can, however, tell you that it’s going to make whatever you put it on smell like wet sheep for several days.

I had read that Wool Wax performs the same but doesn’t stink so bad.

...if you deal with salt and salt water making its way into everything, and only treat the frame, that's a whole lot of truck you are not treating.

...i don't remember what i paid for it initially, but my annual krowned re-sprays are $100.00, or about $108.00 ish with tax, annually, and after every fall treatment, i'll still see dips of that stuff oozing out of the lower doors and tailgate when it starts to get hot out.

    my personal take:
the hard waxes are better at keeping the contaminates out, but the area to be treated needs to be 100% clean and dry or you could be sealing the problem in
the oils seem better at displacing/sealing the contaminates off the surface but do not hold up as long

Hey Gents, looking at Fluid Film vs LPS3. Both in 11oz spray can. LPS3 twice the price. Is it that much better than Fluid Film? Thanks!

Two years of Fluid Film, switched to Woolwax, better application, not as runny and smells better.

Applying woolwax isnt just for shops. Assuming you have an air compressor it can be done for about $100

Hey AvalonTaco & TacoTuesday603, Thanks. This is helpful. I have a couple smallish areas around the receiver hitch that I hit with a wire wheel on a angle grinder. Took off the surface rust and the paint. Would you recommend re-primer and painting, then Wool Wax? Also I have anti seize on exposed threads of the bolts, will the Wool Wax stick to that? Thanks

Depending on if its perfectly clean or not I would just hit it with rustomeoum rust reformer then WW.

As for antisieze, I use it all the time and have WW over it and it hasnt caused any issues.

How do you tell if it needs a respray
Since it is so clear and doesn't attract dirt that I can tell

I just do it every time the wheel is off. Just a quick spray.

For the whole truck I dont really reapply anything, I just have a routine every fall that I do and I call it good enough.

It's a super beginner friendly process.

Assuming you started with nothing, you went into undercoating with terminator rules, your all in cost will be at most $350. And that equipment is fully reusable year after year.

I did it with the most low budget 2.6 CFM pancake air compressor, 3 hours start to finish net of cleanup time. Considering that the going rate my area is $400 for this work, I think I did pretty well.

That said, if I was doing a brand new truck again that was clean, I would use CRC marine protectant a.k.a. Cosmoline.
