@koditten but also anyone else with experience working on zero-turns. I have a local Kubota ZD18 diesel zero turn available near me. Runs and fires up easy, 1330 hours on the meter clock. Says the right hydro is weak and it needs to be replaced or rebuilt. How hard are these machines to work on? I know you don't know me but I am fairly handy, do all my own mechanic work on my vehicles and know my way around a machine half decent. Unrealistic to do myself or something that can be done? I like the Kubota series and the diesel in my Kubota tractor has been great. Just thinking it might be a nice way into a zero turn. Listed for 1250 but wasn't planning to pay that if the mower needs this work. Thoughts?!

And thank you to everyone, always nice to come here for some info and follow along to all the projects.

Is there a full model number listed on the frame of this Kubota?

With that info I'd be able to look up what hydro pump was used to spin the wheel motors.

I just looked up this unit.

I'm not qualified to offer an opinion. This unit is way out of my comfort zone.

The only way I'd grab one of these is if the price was under $350 and I did not need it right away or need to to pedal it.

The parts are all available and diagrams are easy to obtain, but it's gonna be a long, messy job pulling the hydrolic system.

I like working on these machines, but this one had better be given up for a stellar price for me to want to put it on the lift table.

I know I'm pro Toro, but there are some units are just an engineering mistake by the manufacturer. Toro has plenty.

Please reach out to others, since I'm not real familiar with Kubota, but I can read their diagrams.

That information alone is valuable enough to me. I know the Kubota line holds value well, I only see a handful of the same model listed on sites and they’re all 3-4k plus so even at 1k I know it’s worth the money but I don’t think I need to headache. The other option is I reach out to my local Kubota and ask for a ballpark quote to just drive it right to them for the repair but I imagine that’s big money. Shit the seat is in bad shape and I saw that’s 700 bucks from Kubota

Could be a simple fix, could be expensive.

A Hustler I have had a weak side when I got it, turns out there is a bolt with a hole in it you turn so you can move it manually so you don't damage the hyrdro, it was loose and works great now. Found that info on the web, apparently it's happened before on the Hustler's.

Any brand preference in here for lawn & garden batteries? 5 year old interstate needs placed. Late 90's MTD riding mower with 20HP Briggs.

Also shopping for a new battery charger for the winter.

I don't really have a preference on lawn mower batteries but I do have several of these that work great keeping them charged. I have them on tractors and mowers.

This is just a maintainer though.

I would take care when ordering from that company having heard lots of horror stories of broken stuff to bad customer service to poor welds. They don’t manufacture any of the items they sell and in a lot of cases the customer service is nonexistent. Just be careful who you order from.

Thanks for the info. I've already had a not so good experience with the stump grinder I ordered from MechMaxx. After waiting five weeks they still couldn't provide a ship date. So I cancelled the order. Luckily they did issue a refund quickly. They had charged my credit card immediately upon me placing the order..

You want a good stump bucket look at CRI. Cold rolled industries. They’re in Iowa and make their own stuff. A couple friends have them and are thoroughly satisfied.

I’ve ordered a few things now; pallet forks, rear 3 point ball hitch mount and something else I can’t recall off the top of my head. Definitely not good customer service. Welds look fine and the products have worked well but bad shipping, always damaged with chips in the powder coat, etc.

    Couple of quick inputs...

That type of stump popper only works good if you have enough weight/power for the stump you try.
The guy with the bx23 series? He is obviously doing small stumps in soft dirt vs big ass stumps in clay.

On the Kubota mower: these are good machines but they were always cursed with hydros going out.
I'm not a hydro rebuilder. I just buy new ones & swap them out. Good hydros from Parker/white can be pricey. The other thing with the Kubota mowers is something koditten can probably tell you more about. When one side is getting weak vs the other side is still "fine"....it usually indicates how the machine was used. Slope wise or banks. That Kubo motor is probably fine, but if you already have 1 hydro going bad? Count on doing 2 pretty soon.

Hate to hear that on MechMaxx not delivering.
Woodland Mills is rock solid to deal with on that exact same grinder. Its an absolute workhorse if you got the right tractor for it.

Agreed he usually does like 8” stumps or under or they’re rotten and the dirt he works with looks pretty easy to dig. Buffalo area. Videos are still enjoyable though just have to consider what your personal surroundings are like.
