So I’d like to add sumo springs or timbrens to support my rear leaf springs when I’m hauling my car hauler with tractor and implements occasionally. I have an 18 TRD OR with stock suspension but in the next year or two want to lift front and rear 1-2” tops.

I don’t want the timbrens or sumos to be resting on the frame while not towing (no weight in the bed), but I’ve seen some people talk about the sumo springs always contacting and providing about 5/8” lift. This definitely isn’t what I want, whatever I end up with I want to sit about 1/2” - 1” from the frame under normal driving conditions. Is this possible with stock suspension and once I lift the rear in the future? Thanks in advance!

They ordered 2nd gen Sumo's, that's why they contacted frame, unloaded. They are two different models, one for 2nd gen and one for 3rd gen.

Air bags for the win. Deflate when no load, inflate when you got a load. I ,love mine.

I just put a set on my Tundra 3 weeks ago. These changed the game. I can adjust the ride height according to the bed or hitch load. The ride empty is much better as well. (no air pressure when empty).

This is the kit I used for the Tundra. They have them for other trucks. It was an easy install.

I have Sumos on my SR, and they are great. They don't touch the frame when not under load ( even with a LEER shell) , but do the job when hauling firewood off-road.

@Haole Toy did you go with the blue ones and on stock suspension? That’s the direction I’m leaning towards. From what I can tell it looks like the game between the sumo and the frame increases with a lift.

Hello! When there is no load, Timbren Aeon Springs should not be in contact. These SES kits are designed to work when you need them to work. When you are not hauling, you should notice nothing harsh in regards to ride quality. When hauling - our product is a progressive rubber spring that provides load support to keep the truck level under load all while keeping ride quality intact!

Lifetime Warranty and a 100 day satisfaction guarantee.

Will the gap between the top of the timbren and frame increase when I add a rear block or AAL? Is there a bump stop spacer I could at that time to keep the distance the same?

Not on a block, may on a add a leaf. Because it is putting more arch in spring.

I have Sumo’s on my ‘21 after using airbags on my older Taco. Don’t tow much at all but do load up the bed and the Sumos work perfectly.
I recently added the Icon AAL and left the overload spring in. Gap between the Sumo’s and frame increased, made up a 1/2” spacer for between the Sumo spring and mounting plate. Rides perfect for me.

I can add Timbrens don’t contact until bed is loaded. I also have a 2/1 lift level.

Ive had them on both my 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas without issue. When I noticed the hardware had started to disintegrate after 7 years in the rust belt, I emailed Timbren wanting to purchase new hardware. 2 weeks later a box with an entire new set of Timbrens / hardware arrived at zero cost . Outstanding warranty and customer service by them.

I've had the blue Sumos for four years or so on my '18 TRD OR. I tow a 3,500# trailer with about 300# tongue weight (no load leveling hitch) Couldn't be happier. I had air bags on my previous truck, and it was a PIA to constantly check and adjust the air. I have towed the trailer about 12,000 miles, so far.

@Gord0 doesn’t sumo spring make a spacer you can add in that situation? Not sure if it can be bought separately but it looks like one of there kits has spacers in it.

Yes they do have a spacer. It was pretty easy for me to just make what I needed though.

Hi, everyone, hope all is well. I recently bought a set of the Timbren SES Bump Stops for the rear of the truck. I have a stock set up 2023 TRD DC Tacoma Sport.

Anyone have recommendations for the torque foot pounds when installing the Bump Stops?

    I'd appreciate any feedback.
