Very little nowadays. Its mostly appearance and headunit related. If I were buying a new one this year i'd just get an SR with one of the new appearance packages that makes it look badass. I think the only real difference is intermittent wipers and cruise control although maybe thats not the case anymore.

My new SR did not come with fog lights or intermittent wipers. But I put them both on as soon as I could! Along with a bed mat and key less entry. You know, the stuff you would find on a normal truck.
Even though it didn't come with all the extras, I still love it and can afford it.

It was back in the day, but 2016-2017 the SR offered a 5spd with the 4cyl and the SR5 had no manual option.

There are no new 5spd manual Tacomas, only 6spd manual TRDs.

Once you add the SX package with option to the SR, there's a $1,735 difference in MSRP compared to the SR5. ( both configured V6 automatic 4 wheel drive)
The package adds $800 to the cost of the SR, but you get the keyless entry, black alloy rims, black mirrors, door handles, and fender flares.

You do not have intermittent wipers or fog lights. And apparently the only interior color is gray..... which is why I got the silver exterior.

Added the fogs,Rigid industries, better than factory for around $250
    Wiper mod is under $100

I just thought it was a better deal

BTW...I have adaptive cruise...not sure if that is standard across the line or was part of the SX package

Toyota safety sense(includes adaptive cruise control) is standard across the line.

The only major difference is intermittent wipers. I added them (OEM factory part) for $133 and about an hour of work which included about half an hour spent searching/watching YT videos.

The other stuff is cosmetic. My signature truck cost $25,536 and came from factory with keyless entry (part of a $225 option).

Are you sure it was a SR5? I'd run out and look at the window sticker
