    Hey guys,
I have a torn CV boot that I'm hoping to replace. I have done t before on the opposite side and pulled the whole axle to do it. While I was in there I did the diff seal. Apparently I'm terrible at it. I did it twice and it leaked. I'm hoping to do the other side without removing the inner axle stub. I feel like if I cut the clamp I can remove the inner tulip from the stub while leaving the stub in the diff. Then I can redo my boots, slide the tulip back into the stub and clamp the new axle boot. Has anyone given this a try? Is there something I might be missing that will cause me problems? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Why not just pull it? You have to disassembled just as much stuff to get to the same point and it will be easier removed

I don't have a second gen but when I did my extended shafts I left the stubs in the diff and just clamped the the bolts on after I reinstalled the axles. It's only been a few thousand miles but no leaks.

I'm trying to avoid messing around/replacing the diff seal. Didn't go well for me last time.

I wouldn't use this on my truck because I offload and I wouldn't trust it for extreme suspension travel, but if you want a simple fix then
maybe a split-boot kit will work for you. You must keep it clean and carefully read the directions.
You cut away the old boot and replace it with the new split boot. The split is "chemical welded" together with a product it includes. I've had good luck with them on cars.

Just rubber cement. Same shit they use to plug your tires when you get a flat.

Like Derek said, works well if you pavement pound your truck.

I think you guys missed what I'm getting at. I'm going to pull the axle and use OE Toyota boots. However, instead of separating at the diff, I'll separate at He inner boot so I don't have to mess around with diff seals. Then I can rebuild the axle, shove the tulip into the stub and reclamp. In my head it works, I just don't remember if I'm going to run into any issues. I will not be using split boots.

Just replace the whole cv. They are cheap and it's way easier than doing a boot.

A bunch a cool stickers, a bada ass MetalMiller Tx Longhorns grill emblem painted Hemi Orange, JBA long tube headers with o2 sims, Diff breather mod, Red LED interior lights, Fancy head unit that plays ipod n movies, Also DIY install factory stuff like, factory cruise control, factory intermittent wipers, OME nitro struts with 886x springs and toy tec top plate, JBA high caster UCA's for better alignmnet and dey beefier too, Old Man Emu Dakar leaf springs in da rear with the gear, U bolt flipper, Ivan Stewart TRD rims with 33" K Bro 2's, some bad ass weather tech floor liners so I don't muck up my interior, an ATO shackle flipper for mo travel in da rear wit the gear, also super shiny Fox 2.0 shocks back there too, all sorts of steal armor for bouncing off of the rocks like demello sliders, AP front skid, trans skid, n transfer skid, demello gas tank skid, and a tough as nails ARB bumper with warn 8k winch, I'm sure there's more
I did this exact thing. Cut the clamp and pulled the axle without removing the stub from the axle. Just do like you would your drive shaft and put it back in the same way as you removed it.

Incorrect. Boots are less than 50$. My time is worthless/free. At least 100$ for an axle. Gotta change diff seal as well while axle is out. I don't know if you read my original post but that's what I'm trying to avoid.

If you have replaced the boot 3 times and it still leaks maybe it's time to just buy a new shaft. Bite the bullet.

Yeah, I did misunderstand. I agree, I can't think of a reason why you couldn't do it your way as long as everything comes apart. I'd be careful of reassembly, wouldn't want to have to hammer that cv back on the shaft with it attached to the diff.

I just did this. No pics but...

Jack your truck up and take the tire off

Undo the boot clamp on the diff side at the tulip

The droop in your suspension should allow enough slack to pull the inner joint out

    Remove spring clip

    Remove joint from the shaft

    Remove boots

Reassemble with grease and new boots in reverse order.
