Very handy for those odd automotive tasks where you need to keep something from spinning. On very smooth surfaces, can be combined with a bicycle tube to make things happen. This tool is well made, in the "will last a lifetime" category. Nice size, for lots of leverage, but still very light and with lots of grip due to choice of materials. Strap can be lengthened with a buckle for use on very large pipes, such as culverts, etc. Lengthening would not normally be required in auto work, as the provided strap length is more than adequate. If you need one of these, get this one.

I needed something to hold a 5" diameter ATV engine flywheel so that I could tighten the crankshaft nut to 125 ft-lbs. I broke a cheaper strap wrench before buying this one. The flywheel has a polished steel surface on the outside and this strap's nylon would slip (as I would expect), allowing the flywheel to rotate when torquing the crankshaft nut. To fix this, I wrapped a bicycle inner tube around the flywheel and then put the strap over the inner tube. No more slipping and I was easily able to torque the crankshaft nut to 125 ft-lbs. I did have to put a steel pipe extension on the wrench's handle to get enough leverage to hold it while torquing the flywheel nut. Once the wrench "cams over" and sits against the flywheel it holds the strap incredibly tight. If the strap is loosening up, then it isn't fed correctly through the wrench. I don't have any other planned uses for this wrench, but it worked perfectly in my situation. I'd definitely recommend it and would buy again if I had to.

This strap wrench was bought to hold onto an industrial spray head 220mm in diameter that has 24 protruding nozzles and torque the central nut to 80NM. The wrench was selected as it has an extra long strap that can be trimmed to the correct length and the sewn attachment is a lot more durable than the riveted models. It is cast aluminium so is light while handling a torque wrench in the other hand.

The strap is braided nylon and will tend to slip on a small diameter smooth surface. Attaching a strip of rubber on the inside will aide gripping but this is not a hindrance so far.

Has performed very well to date.

I recommend manufacturer create some simple instructions because this tool isn't intuitive. It took me a few minutes and I'm mechanically inclined. Basically the picture they have has it threaded right. You take the running end of strap and lay it along the wrench (basically perpendicular to the pipe or ?????). Held a transmission on a washing machine stationary while I breaker bar'd the retaining nut on the hub. Very impressed.
