Admittedly, I just installed this and can make no comment on longevity. I have had a ProClip custom vehicle mount in my car for several years now, and previously had a TomTom GPS mounted with a ProClip adapter plate. Planning to trade this car in a couple of years, I was hesitant of investing $30 in a ProClip adapter for my new Garmin GPS, and decided to take a chance with this product. First, the 17mm ball fits my Nuvi perfectly, snug but not so tight that it is overly difficult to remove. More important, it fits my ProClip mount perfectly; I mean that the four holes lined up exactly with the holes that were used to attach my TomTom plate from ProClip. This plate is slightly thicker though, so the original screws would not work, and this product came with machine screws and nuts, which would not work since the mount is solid under the holes on the right side. I drilled holes in the mount aligning with the two longer distance holes (horizontal in this photo) which were already pre-punched on the ProClip at the correct distance BTW, and mounted the adapter with the machine screws at these two points. It is completely stable. Time will tell the story, but this unit was designed to perfectly fit onto the ProClip mount, fits the Garmin Nuvi perfectly and seems to be a quality product.

I'm not sure what this thing is for... it's the second attempt at mounting my Garmin to the dash. I thought the picture looked right and it was what I needed, and in another circumstance it would be. It stuck out from the dash where I wanted it too far, even without the base. It's a fine product so I'll rate it well. Even though I did not use the thing, the ball fit perfectly in the Garmin mount. The backing plate and the ball are separate pieces and they don't stay together all too well. I ended up just driving a screw through the Garmin backing plate where the ball would go and into the dash... don't know why I didn't think of that earlier!

I have a 2006 RAV4 and a DROID RAZR MAXX Vehicle Navigation Dock (which I also bought from Amazon!). I love the dock, however, the mount to the window sets the phone a bit too far back for easy use. Trying to get the dash mount disk to stick to somewhere on the dashboard is nearly impossible since there just isn't anywhere convenient that's flat. I tried several places and went through several disk adhesives to no avail. So now what? I already had a Panavise that wasn't being used so I wanted something that I could use the Panavise and the dock together.

Well after quite a bit of research, I found this Arkon mount adapter was the answer! The swivel ball fits perfectly into the back of the Motorola dock and the holes in the base of the Arkon lined up perfectly to the Panavise. Woohoo was I happy! This solved all my problems. It brought my phone closer to my hand without getting in the way of the steering wheel. It is at the right eye level so I don't have to bring my eyes all the way down if I used a coffee holder style mount (not very safe IMO). And it was the very reasonably priced. I'm so happy that I did a little dance after the quick install.

I had an aftermarket motorcycle mount for my old Garmin Street pilot. I bought this so I could use my Nuvi and was delighted when I found the mounting holes lined up exactly with my old mount. The screws that some with it do not have lock washer or nylon lock nuts--a mistake on a motorcycle since they may vibrate loose. I just re-used my old nylon lock nuts on the new mount.

This rating is based on the fact that I use my Garmin on my motorcycle behind the windshield. Because of this, it is subject to a lot more vibration and bouncing around than in a car, so I needed a very good connection to the dash. I used both a high quality automotive adhesive tape (the kind that holds rear view mirrors to windshields) and I also used the two holes in the base to screw it to the dash. It has not come loose. the part with the ball snaps firmly and positively to the base plate and it's hard for me to imagine those two coming apart under any riding conditions. While I hated putting holes in the top of the dash I know how irritated at myself I'd be if I hadn't and lost the Garmin due to a mounting failure that I could easily have prevented.

The basic T slot mount says it will fit all Magellen Roadmate GPS, but doesn't fit the 1700 I have. Glad I ordered this combo, had to file down the ball to fit my GPS as I expected. But then the whole thing sticks out too far, gets a bit bouncy. I ended up building a mount from aluminum channel ans sheet instead.

Only lasted two years, until the mount broke where the ball is attached. Seeing other reviews stating identical results, I can only assume this is a design flaw and weak point. Not used heavily, either. Used only for normal highway driving and not in a hot or cold climate. I'll try a different product, next time. Not risking my valuable GPS on a poorly made, cheap plastic part!

I bought this with a Brodit Proclip to replace the suction mount of my Motorola Atrix Car Dock, Power and Audio dock. The ball fitting on the ARKON AGN-VSM is the perfect size for the socket on the Atrix Car Dock, so it allowed me to position the dock closer to me in the car. The ball is detachable from the mounting plate, but the join is very stiff, so no worries about it falling off.
